据载，清末币制混乱，朝野上下发生了银元单位之争，北洋机器局更名为北洋造币局。更名后北洋造币局率先铸行以库平纪重的“光绪元宝”，背面左侧阿拉伯数字，表示该币铸行时间为光绪几年。北洋造库平七钱二分光绪元宝因铸行量少，完好存世的更是，对古泉爱好者来说可谓是无价之宝。
