始铸于周世宗显德二年（公元955年）。世宗显德二年(955)始铸。周元通宝钱文仿唐开元通宝钱文。改“开”为“周”，“周”字方正匀称，“元”字长横左挑，与开元通宝相比较扁，“宝”字较小。钱文为隶书，兼有篆书成分。钱文庄重，挺拔，深峻。五代十国时期的钱币大多铸工不精，钱文也大都夷漫不清，但周元通宝钱文非常工整，端正，故在五代钱币中，周元通宝的钱文。

It was first cast in the second year of Zhou Shizong's Xiande (955 A.D.). Shizong Xiande was first cast in two years (955). Zhou Yuan Tongbao Qianwen imitates Tang Kaiyuan Tongbao Qianwen. Changing "Kai" to "Zhou", the word "Zhou" is square and symmetrical, and the word "Yuan" is long and left-handed. Compared with Kaiyuan Tongbao, it is flat and the word "Bao" is smaller. Qian Wen is an official script, which contains both seal script and seal script. Qian Wen is solemn, upright and stern. During the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms, most coins were not well minted and most of them were vague. But Zhou Yuan Tongbao's coins were very neat and correct. Therefore, Zhou Yuan Tongbao's coins were the first among the five dynasties'coins.

Zhou Yuan Tongbao was the first one cast by Zhou Shizong in the second year of Xiande (955 A.D.). It is the largest and best quality copper coin in five generations. When copper was scarce, Zhou Shizong ordered the destruction of Buddha, but was opposed by Buddhists and Manchus. But the talented Zhou Shizong Chai Rong has removed the metaphor of "giving up one's body to keep a tiger". He said, "The Buddha said that life is bright and interests are urgent. It's a pity that his real body still lives, respects the world and wants to be cut off." This means that the Buddha benefits all life. If he is still alive, in order to save people, his real body can be destroyed, why not give up the bronze statue? These words silenced the opponent and forced him to obey them.

“合背钱”顾名思义两面文字完全一样。在合背时,两面是同一个方向的称“正合
背”;有的是一正一反,称“倒合背”;有的则一横一竖,称“十字合背”等等。而此枚十字合背周元通宝属于铸币过程中的失误,但却发行了出来,且到了我们藏友手上收藏实属不易!合背钱在大量的流通货币中只占极少数,所以不易发现。因此被收藏家所珍爱。
