The experimental results of γ -energy leakage from boron-containing polyethylene spheres under D-T neutron irradiation show that the moderation of hydrogen in polyethylene spheres plays a major role, and when the neutrons are moderated, it is mainly the reaction of low-energy neutrons to hydrogen.The thicker the hydrogen is, the slower the hydrogen is and the stronger the absorption is, which is shown by the increase of the peak value of hydrogen.
In the boron - containing polyethylene sphere , boron plays an important role in the absorption of boron . The boron - to - low - energy neutron has a large reaction cross - section , and the low - energy neutron has been completely absorbed by the boron before the reaction of hydrogen has not occurred , the boron - containing polyethylene has reached the requirement on the shielding effect of neutrons when the mass percentage is 10 % and the thickness is 15cm .
Through the final conclusion of this experiment, our company has done a series of research and development on the percentage and thickness of boron containing polyethylene again. It has good radiation resistance, no activation products, low secondary γ ray energy, good chemical stability and corrosion resistance.Non-toxic, odorless, high mechanical strength, smooth surface, easy decontamination, easy machining, easy installation and maintenance.
含硼聚乙烯球在D-T中子照射下泄露γ能的实验终说明:聚乙烯球中氢的慢化起主要作用,中子被慢化后,主要是低能中子对氢的反应。厚度越大,氢的慢化、吸收越强,表现在氢的反应峰值的幅度增大。
而在含硼聚乙烯球中,主要是硼起吸收作用。硼对低能中子的反应截面比较大,在还没有发生氢的反应之前低能中子基本已被硼完全吸收,含硼聚乙烯在质量百分比为10﹪、厚度为15cm时,含硼聚乙烯对中子的屏蔽效果已达到要求。在此基础上再增加含硼量或者厚度,中子的积分泄露量基本不发生变化。
我公司通过对本实验的终结论在对含硼聚乙烯的百分比与厚度上再次做了一系列的研发,具有抗辐照性能好,无活化产物,次级γ射线能量低;化学稳定性好,耐腐蚀,、无气味;机械强度高,表面光滑、便于去污、机械加工方便、易于安装维修的特点。
